Laundry Aide

Masonicare Health Center - Wallingford, CT

Part Time / 24hrs - including every other weekend

Benefitted Position

Day Shift - 5:45am - 2:15pm

The Laundry Aide assists with washing and finishing functions of the laundry as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs tasks according to daily assignment schedule prepared by supervisor

• 
  Sort, fold, shake and press items following instructions and prescribed procedures in the clean processing area.

3. Assist in the sorting of soiled linen with the assistance and under direction of the washman or sorter.

4. Finishes clean linen by mangling following established procedures.

• 
  Detect and report faulty equipment, defective material or questionable matter to supervisor.

6. Communicate effectively and tactfully with residents/patients recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical condition.

7. Attend meetings as required. Participates in inservice programs.

8. Understands and follows universal precautions and chemicals as they are used in the department.

9. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Less than High School

Experience: On Job Training

Key Competencies: Ability to read and follow instructions. Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs). Prolonged and extensive standing/walking. Manual dexterity and mobility. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling & crouching.

The Linen Transporter collects soiled laundry from various areas of MHC and delivers to soiled linen area of laundry. Deliver laundry bags and clean linen.

32hrs/wk including every other weekend rotation

THIS POSITION IS BENEFIT ELIGIBLE

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Delivers linen bags to user departments. Keep records of linen pickup by department.
• Keeps linen trucks neat and orderly.
• Assists with other duties in laundry/linen department when necessary.
• Attends meetings as required. Participates in in-service programs.
• Understands and follows universal precautions and chemicals that are used in the department.
• Communicate effectively and tactfully with residents/patients recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical condition.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

• Provides members with prompt and courteous service and assistance.
• Replenishes, refills, stocks, and straightens merchandise. Ensures proper signage of merchandise.
• Keeps sales floor clean, neat and full organized.
• Replenishes milk, dairy, freezer, food, and non-food merchandise. Folds and organizes apparel, books, and other merchandise.
• Removes empty cardboard from the sales floor, shelves, display cases, and replenishes box bins. Uses cardboard baler to dispose of cardboard.
• Returns all returned and re-shop merchandise to the sales floor.
• Maintains all club policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as needed.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of this job.

Qualifications

• Must successfully complete required training and certification processes.
• Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail required.

Environmental Job Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. Frequently requires bending, climbing, crawling, pulling, reaching, stooping and climbing ladders/step stools.
