This is responsible part time work in the Department of Transportation, Traffic & Parking involving the safe crossing of children to and from schools. Locations are assigned by supervisor. Guards are required to maintain safe and efficient flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an high school or vocational training, or a minimum of 2 years work experience in public service or equivalent; must be in good physical condition and complete a physical examination by the City Of New Haven physician; must have ability to work in all weather conditions and must be reliable on assignments and have the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Familiarity with traffic rules and regulations, especially regulations requiring driver and pedestrian responsibility in relation to school crossings, parking, and intersections; Understanding the principles behind the use of such traffic control devices as Stop Signs, Signalization, Channelization and Street Markings; Ability to identify motor vehicles by body style, color and license plate numbers; Ability to take control in an emergency situation.
