Restaurant in Woodbridge, CT is seeking an experience, skilled Line Cook to lead Brunch and Dinner services.
Minimum 3 years of experience working in a fast paced lunch and dinner environment.
Must be available to work fluctuating schedule - 5-6 days a week, 35-50 hours a week, depending on the restaurant's needs.
Job Functions Include:
Responsible for preparing orders for the restaurant and ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen by performing the following duties:
Cooking all manner of American and some French-style cuisine, including bistro sandwiches, dinners, salads, soups, sauces, etc. Proper plating and timing skills are REQUIRED. Preparation of ingredients and mise en place for service is REQUIRED.
We are NOT a corporate restaurant or hotel, you will not have an army of prep cooks to help you, your skills must run the gamut from prep > plating.
YOU MUST HUSTLE IN THE KITCHEN. If you don't have "moves" you will not hack it.
Will also be responsible (when necessary) for receiving deliveries and inventory management, cleaning and organizing of both your own station AND the kitchen in general, directing workflow in the kitchen, carrying out any other tasks that the chef has assigned you.
You will need a high level of organization... LISTS are CRUCIAL to the proper functioning of our kitchen and you will be expected to make SEVERAL a day. You will also be responsible for making sure everything on these lists is accomplished.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Receives deliveries, manage inventory, anticipate kitchen needs and respond accordingly.
- Prepares all food items prior to and during meal time periods according to written food orders and recipes.
- Prepares, slices and chops meat, cheese and other food products.
- Uses preparatory utensils such as knives, pans and slicers on a regular basis.
- Uses deep fryer, electric choppers, mixers, blenders, steamers, graters, and other preparatory utensils.
- Communicates with servers in a professional manner regarding customer orders.
- Follow portion and quality control standards of the menu.
- Ensures all leftover/unused food products are stored/restocked or disposed of properly.
- Examines, labels and stores incoming food supplies in storage and refrigeration areas appropriately.
- Ensures kitchen appliances and equipment have been cleaned and turned off at the end of each work day.
- Maintains work areas in a sanitized and orderly manner in compliance with state health and safety regulations.
- Maintains food product inventory and notifies owner of any shortages as soon as possible.
- Reports any health and/or safety concerns/violations immediately to management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in a fast paced lunch and dinner environment.
- Experience with prep work as well as line cooking is REQUIRED.
- Self-starter who regularly takes initiative!!!!!
- Must be able to work independently without direction
- Ability to regularly lift packages that weigh 50+ pounds
- Ability to stretch to reach high shelves or bend to reach low cabinets
- Ability to stand for long periods of time (during entire 8+ hour shifts)
- Ability to effectively communicate with other members of the kitchen staff in a loud, busy environment.
- Ability to multi-task.
- MUST BE EXTREMELY ORGANIZED AND DETAIL ORIENTED.
