NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible part time work in the Department of Transportation, Traffic & Parking involving the safe crossing of children to and from schools. Locations are assigned by supervisor. Guards are required to maintain safe and efficient flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an high school or vocational training, or a minimum of 2 years work experience in public service or equivalent; must be in good physical condition and complete a physical examination by the City Of New Haven physician; must have ability to work in all weather conditions and must be reliable on assignments and have the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Familiarity with traffic rules and regulations, especially regulations requiring driver and pedestrian responsibility in relation to school crossings, parking, and intersections; Understanding the principles behind the use of such traffic control devices as Stop Signs, Signalization, Channelization and Street Markings; Ability to identify motor vehicles by body style, color and license plate numbers; Ability to take control in an emergency situation.

Cleans all areas of facility by performing the following duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Custodial Services Department.
 Performs routine cleaning of administrative offices, gymnasiums, lobbies, cafeterias, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators and stairways in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
 Mops, sweeps, scrubs, and strips floors and other surfaces; applies floor sealers and finishes; vacuums and shampoos carpets; operates edger's, power washers, and auto - scrubbers on floor surfaces.
 Cleans and dusts furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings; moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous as directed.
 Washes and cleans light fixtures.
 Maintains confidentiality according to policy.
 Empties waste paper baskets; collects, bags, and disposes of paper and debris as directed; collects and places in containers garbage, broken glass, and litter.
 Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
 Locks and unlocks doors and windows to offices and other rooms as necessary. Turns off lights when rooms are unoccupied.
 Replenishes rest room supplies. Cleans, disinfect, and service lavatories, locker rooms, and rest rooms. Cleans all fixtures daily.
 Follows all infection control practices including hand washing techniques.
 Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
 Works day, evening or night shift as assigned.
 Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
 Observes safety precautions at all times.
 Perform related work as directed.

Maintains specific safety precautions including:

No small or sharp objects or tools that may injure students, staff, or visitors will be left out. Cleaning carts will not be left unattended. Custodial closet will remain locked at all times. Keep hallways and pathways clear of debris, cleaning equipment and tools.
