Full Job Description:
Primary Function
The
part-time Front of House Assistant helps ensure Shubert Theatre shows
and events operate smoothly and safely, while providing a superior
patron experience. This position serves as a lead for front-of-house
staff, concessions staff, and volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with operational readiness of ticket scanners.
- Ensures all public areas meet the Shubert Theatre’s cleaning and safety standards.
- Assists with maintaining a safe and clean environment, ensuring that all health and liquor guidelines are followed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists with the safe evacuation of the venue when emergencies occur.
- Ensures building spaces are clear and properly secured at the conclusion of the events.
- Assists with the set-up and tear down of food and beverage stations.
- Assists with cash management for food and beverage operations including utilizing cash handling standards, deposits, and accurate accounting of cash and sales.
- Assists with ordering, receiving deliveries, and inventory control.
- Assists with pre-performance informational meetings with front of house staff and volunteers.
- Helps direct and monitor lobby traffic to ensure maximum ease and comfort, both in entering and exiting the venue during performances and events.
- Ensures front-of-house staff provide exceptional customer service to patrons.
- Assists with patron customer service issues by offering a relevant and suitable resolution. Issues range from seating to safety concerns.
- Assists with initial and ongoing training of front of house staff and volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient communication skills.
- Exemplary customer service skills combined with patience in working with various groups of people.
- Knowledge of theatrical operations.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a leader, foster a positive and efficient work environment, and motivate others.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Ability to remain calm and resolve challenges and/or requests in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- The physical demands of this position require walking, sitting, stooping, reaching, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by theatre activity which may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Credentials and Experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D; undergraduate degree preferred, or equivalent combination or education and work experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a customer-facing position, ideally with cash-handling responsibilities.
- Ability to obtain Tips Certification.
- Previous experience in a theatre or performance venue is preferred.
- Ability to maintain current certification in CPR/First Aid/AED.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by theatre activity.
- The selected candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to beginning this position, or agree to become vaccinated within 4 weeks of their start date.
