Since 1985, the Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut has provided thousands of families with a home away from home, serving the needs of families with children undergoing essential and specialized medical treatment at hospitals and healthcare facilities around Massachusetts.
Relief Manager (aka Manager on Duty)
The Relief Manager is responsible for the management of the Ronald McDonald House during scheduled shifts to include weekend, overnight and holidays. The house operates a front reception desk from 7am – 10pm seven days a week, year-round. Shifts range from 5pm-7am (14 hours) or 7am-5pm (10 hours). For overnight shifts, Relief Managers are responsible to be awake for the following overnight hours, 5-10pm and again 6-7am, and are provided with a manager’s guest room for overnight sleep and personal time.
Relief Manager job responsibilities include:
- Acting as the on-site point person for all House Guests staying and arriving at the RMH house.
- Work weekend and holiday shifts.
- Overnight shifts = 14 hours, (6 awake and 8 asleep)
- Daytime shifts = 10 hours
- On call status to respond to any problems, late night family arrivals and/or emergencies
- Any reasonable duty needed to be performed for a House Guest
- Respond and answer phones and aid all callers
- Provide Check in registration and check out to House Guests
- Follow, support and enforce, where and when necessary, all RMH House rules
- Support and maintain the overall guest experience of the house (re-stocking food, snacks and water in the kitchen, refilling soda machine, emptying trash, wiping down surfaces and light cleaning of communal spaces)
- Support and maintain all required daily paperwork, communication logs and guest forms to include the daily census report
- Act as the welcoming committee and point person for all donations being dropped off or delivered to the house
- Provide house tours when scheduled
- Attend staff meetings
- Contribute to maintenance repair tickets for identified house issues
- Shovel and salt outside walkways for safety during inclement weather while working
- Coordinate with other RM’s to cover a scheduled shift when a change is needed.
- Other duties assigned by House Manager/Supervisor
Note: At NO time can a Weekend/Relief Manager leave the premises. As a team, we work together to ensure a solid schedule of covered nights, weekends and holidays, typically a month in advance, and when necessary (emergency or illness) cover for each other/swap shifts. Holiday coverage for the year ahead is identified and scheduled at the end of the previous year, with all RM’s expected to share in the responsibility of coverage.
