Cook/Kitchen Helper - Part Time (Hamden, CT)

The Cook /Kitchen Helper is responsible for assisting the cooks on a daily basis by performing routine and standardized tasks. The Cook/Kitchen Helper is expected to perform other related duties as assigned. The Cook/Helper is responsible for cooking assignments and preparation of salads, breads, snacks, desserts and any special events items. They will also clean pots and pans and all other kitchen equipment as assigned and wash dining room tables and arrange chairs around tables as needed. Assist in sweeping and mopping the dining room floor after dinner.
Three to four years experience in the field of food service preferred.
The position is 20 hours a week (14 of the 20 hours are Saturday and Sunday). We anticipate this will become a 30 hour position with benefits in the fall, with hours to be determined.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Critical Physical Demands:
Critical demands are the physical capabilities required to perform the essential functions of a job.
•Must be able to perform a floor to shelf lift of up to 40 pounds.
•Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
•Must be able to lift and reach in with up to 40 pounds.
•Must be able to sustain a forward bending position.
•Must be able to turn repetitively to the right and left while standing.
•Must be able to repetitively squat.
Skills:
Ability to cook in large quantities with tight time schedules. Have knowledge of nutrition. Have interest in food service. Ability to work cooperatively with others and have considerable initiative and good judgment.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary education preferred.
Previous Experience/Training:
Candidate must have at least three to four years cooking experience in an institutional or banquet setting. Must have Serve Safe certification.
