Donation Center Attendant (North Haven-P/T)

Performs generally routine duties in accepting donated goods at the Attended Donation Center. Works under the general supervision of the Lead Donation Center Attendant.

Special Requirements: Attended donation centers (ADC's) are typically staffed by one or two employees per shift. Based on this staffing, an exception has been granted by the State of Connecticut, Department of Labor, Wage and Workplace Standards Division, from Section 31-51ii of the Connecticut Statutes that provides in pertinent part, that "no person shall be required to work for seven and one-half or more consecutive hours without a period of at least thirty consecutive minutes for a meal." Consequently, ADC employees are not allowed to leave the location during work hours, including during any break or meal period, if this would result in closing or leaving the work site without staff. At any time that two or more individuals are assigned to an ADC and with prior approval of a supervisor, staff scheduled for seven and one-half or more consecutive hours may leave the work site for a 30-minute meal period, adhering to Agency guidelines requiring that the timecard reflect the beginning and end of the meal period, and using the time clock to do so.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Report amount of material in Donation Center and material outside Donation Center which needs to be removed by truck to supervisor at beginning of shift.

Clean area surrounding Donation Center of donations left overnight and other debris. Cordially greet donors and accept goods donated. Assist donors by carrying material which is to be accepted and explaining material which cannot be accepted and why it must be refused. Provide a gift receipt form to the donor and maintain a copy.

Sort textiles into storage boxes. Place paired shoes, small appliances and miscellaneous hard goods into carts. Place furniture at rear of Donation Center. Separate trash for trash receptacle.

Secure Donation Center at end of shift and assure that area is clear of debris.

OTHER DUTIES
Employee will be included on Alarm Responder Roster for assigned store/location. Must respond upon notification from alarm monitoring company, in-person, to alarm calls that occur before/after typical hours of business operations. Employee must follow established procedures for responding to an alarm call and must have access to transportation to travel to/from store at such times. Employee must provide personal telephone and/or cell phone information in order to be available to receive alarm calls and must maintain ongoing phone service. Based on employment classification, employee will be paid in accordance with Agency Policy for time spent responding to alarm calls.
Perform other related essential duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Additionally, employee is required to place large objects in a crate or cart for disposal. A handtruck should be used whenever possible to move large/heavy objects. The assistance of additional staff must be sought when lifting such objects, whenever feasible, and proper lifting techniques must be applied.
