C.O.R.E.
participants are prepared and developed for long term success. Through data collection and evaluation, the
following are the characteristics of our most successful program participants:
- HIGHLY MOTIVATED
- Former offender with a minimum of one felony, having served a minimum of 3 year sentence
- 225 CASAS score in Literacy and Mathematics (8th grade level of reading and arithmetic)
- Met or is in compliance with their other court ordered treatment obligations (i.e. substance abuse treatment)
- Drug free (as proven by urinalysis)
- Some work experience or have completed employability training at either AIC or CT Works
- Mature disposition (24-35 years of age ideally)
- Dresses appropriately (no underwear showing)
- Punctual
- Displays emotional maturity
- Open to suggestions
- Has additional support(s) (i.e. family, church) and is able to sustain him/herself on P/T work status for a period of up to 20 weeks
- Eager and capable to learn (open to new experiences)
- Invested in their own personal development
- Driver’s License
- One year or less of experience in building services (i.e. construction, rehabs, light carpentry, sheetrock, landscaping)
Availability and Scheduling: C.O.R.E. will be conducting
pre-orientations in partnership with the New Haven Prison Reentry Initiative at
the Mayor’s Office on the 4th Thursday of each month beginning
September 2012. This is a proposed
schedule and is subject to change based on availability and need. The schedule for remaining 2012 CORE Orientations
are as follows:
