POSITION SUMMARY
The transportation Driver is a member of the personal care staff and is responsible for assuring that Community-sponsored scheduled transportation is implemented appropriately and timely, with resident safety and security the primary priority. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with Maplewood Communities philosophy.
Position Responsibilities
· Successfully meets all requirements of Transportation Drive position, including Driver Record report; meets and completes ongoing training and driver requirements
· Transports Community residents to and from medical appointments, activities and shopping errands using Community-owned vehicle
· Reads the transportation schedule daily and makes sure all scheduled appointments can be met. Encourages residents to schedule at least 24 hours in advance of any needed appointment. Reminds residents that medical appointments, activities and shopping are to be scheduled on designated days whenever possible
· Is flexible for unscheduled transportation needs in an emergency
· Monitors resident activity and alerts staff when assistance is necessary to assure residents safety
· Completes routine periodic vehicle inspection check, and informs Administrator of any maintenance problems or safety issues that need to be addressed
· Is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures; follows Community policy and procedures detailed in fire and disaster plans
· All other duties that are assigned by any member of management
Employment Requirements
· Has current Class F state driver's license and acceptable driving record
· Requires minimal supervision; is a self-starter
· Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant demeanor, tone of voice, supports the philosophy and approach to resident care and passenger safety used by the Community
· Performs all tasks with grace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays willingness to assist co-workers
· Able to do occasional heavy lifting of residents (up to 80lbs)
· Able to spend long periods on feet or driving, and to react quickly in any situation
Training & Experience
Has familiarity with and willingness to work with the elderly population; must have approved driving record; successful completion of Maplewood Communities., Driver Safety and Training Course; successful completion of Driver Education Training Course preferred, but not necessary, previous experience in a driving position preferred but not necessary.
