Deli Clerk (FT) - Elm City Market (NEW HAVEN)

Full Job Description

Purpose : Deli Clerks create made to order sandwiches, coffee drinks, smoothies, and other delicious foods for our customers. Deli Clerks report to the Food Service Manager.

Work Environment: This position will perform functions in retail, warehouse, and kitchen environments.

Requirements :

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds safely.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and alternative diets.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing conditions quickly.
  • Willingness to be open to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Retail food service experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service
  • Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards.
  • Be familiar with company policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to Food Service Management.
  • Take ownership of a problem and seek out proper solutions.
  • Anticipate customer concerns and address the issue before it happens.
  • Safety
  • Ensure that department shelves, displays, aisles and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
  • Follow all safety practices and procedures; encourage others to practice safe behaviors as well.
  • Make food quality and sanitation a priority.
  • Store Operations
  • Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by other staff in accordance with established procedures. Keep accurate receiving records.
  • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable. Keep accurate accounting of credit requests.
  • Other
  • Support the Food Service Manager as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekend availability

Education: High school or equivalent (Required)

Work Location: One location
