New Haven Works is a nonprofit organization that provides job placement assistance to New Haven residents, ensures that local employers have access to qualified candidates, and is a resource to the workforce development community of South Central Connecticut.

Position Summary:

The Program Associate will support New Haven Works’ programmatic initiatives by helping New Haven residents navigate various pathway pipelines complement the case management role that Job Coaches play by assisting with 1.) pre-screening and 2.) program eligibility determination. In addition, the Program Associate will work collaboratively with NHW’s Construction Pipeline Coordinator, Director of Employer Engagement, and the Staff & Program Manager to execute targeted recruitment for various employment opportunities with NHW partner employers. The ideal candidate pays strong attention to detail and can uphold a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality.

The Program Associate will report to the Staff & Program Manager and is a full-time one-year grant-funded position with a possibility of extension contingent on continued funding.

Currently, our office is open, and most staff are working in a hybrid (remote and in-person) fashion. The incoming Program Associate should expect both in-person and virtual onboarding and work duties through at least the first three months.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-employment screenings on new members and on existing members who require updated screenings;
  • Secure or assist members in securing supporting documents for pre-employment screenings (e.g., high school diploma, IRS tax transcripts);
  • Communicate, as needed, with HireRight (pre-employment screening vendor) representatives to complete screenings;
  • Coordinate with members’ Job Coaches, as needed, to ensure a smooth pre- employment screening process;
  • Assist members with the process to determine income-eligibility for income-specific pathway pipeline opportunities;
  • Using existing criteria, assess eligibility for income-specific pathway pipeline opportunities;
  • Assist NHW leadership with targeted recruitment efforts as needed for various industries (e.g., Biotech, office administration, construction);
  • Maintain accurate paper and computer files on participants with all required documentation necessary to support case management and funding reporting requirements;
  • Perform other duties as necessary to meet program outcomes

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • *Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Human Services, Education, Business Management or related Social Science fields; or 3+ years of job recruitment/placement, case management, human resources, or related experience;
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Close attention to detail and ability to adhere to high standards of professionalism and confidentiality;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Gmail, and other Google applications (i.e., Docs,

Forms, Sheets, Calendar, and Voice);

  • Demonstrated efficacy working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;
  • Outgoing personality with the ability to work well with the general public and a commitment to assisting New Haven residents from diverse backgrounds achieve professional success; and
  • Ability to work some Saturdays and/or evenings

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • City of New Haven resident strongly preferred;
  • Familiarity with CRM or other database platforms;
  • Proficiency with Zoom and other web-based meeting platforms;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency
