SUPERVISOR: Soup Kitchen Manager
JOB TYPE: Part-time
STATUS: Non- Exempt
SCHEDULE: 4-6 hours minimum / Day shift/Evening shift / Mon-Fri

- The Beth-El Center is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides support services and advocacy to those experiencing homelessness and hunger within the Greater Milford community. Through our 34-bed homeless shelter, food service programs, diversion services and outreach and engagement efforts, we offer individuals, families and veteran's long-term solutions to help them reclaim their lives.

SUMMARY: Food Service Assistant is responsible for the preparation of food in accordance with current guidelines, regulations, and established policies and procedures and as may be directed by the Food Services Director to ensure that quality food service is provided at all times. Must have knowledge of non-profit food service programs and be able to manage volunteers as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Prepares and cooks adequate amounts of quality food items for meal service according to standardized recipes and planned menus in a timely, safe and sanitary manner; demonstrates proper meal planning techniques.
  • Portions and serves food items during meal service according to menu in an attractive and appetizing manner; meets resident's individual preferences safe and sanitary manner.
  • Monitors servings to ensure that foods are being served as mandated by the Department of Health.
  • Schedules and prepares foods for special functions as planned.
  • Stores all food items and supplies according to procedure, in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Operates, cleans and sanitizes any equipment or work surfaces according to procedure in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Cleans food service work area as assigned according to posted work and cleaning schedules. Maintains a neat, clean and orderly work environment.
  • Secures and locks the kitchen as directed. Understands and complies with the closing procedure of the as directed by the Food Service Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
  • Maintains all Food Service documents. Temperatures of food and equipment, proper food handling and all sanitation regulations.
  • Meets resident's individual preferences
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must possess a ServSafe certificate or a Food Service Managers Certification.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work with supervisors, volunteers and facility staff in the performance of duties.
  • Manage donations.
  • Observe proper safety and sanitary techniques.
  • Work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment
  • Ability to use and operate the following equipment: slicer, oven, grill, large blender, steam tables, coffee machine, can opener, microwave oven, robot coupe, dish machine, and any other equipment necessary to prepare meals.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to use computer with Word, Excel, and Outlook
