Grocery Clerk Lead (FT/PT) - Elm City Market (NEW HAVEN)

Purpose : Grocery Clerks help keep the Grocery department stay well stocked and operating smoothly and efficiently. Grocery Clerks report to the Grocery Manager. Grocery Clerks have no direct reports.

Work Environment: This position will perform functions in retail, warehouse, and office environments.

Requirements :

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds safely.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and alternative diets.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing conditions quickly.
  • Willingness to be open to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Retail grocery experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service
  • Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards.
  • Be familiar with the company policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to Grocery Management.
  • Take ownership of a problem and seek out proper solutions.
  • Anticipate customer concerns and address the issue before it happens.
  • Safety
  • Ensure that department shelves, displays, aisles and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
  • Follow all safety practices and procedures; encourage others to practice safe behaviors as well.
  • Store Operations
  • Stocking shelves through out shift, and facing product to make the department look full and organized.
  • Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by other staff in accordance with established procedures. Keep accurate receiving records.
  • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable. Keep accurate accounting of credit requests.
  • Other
  • Support the Grocery Manager as needed.
