Event Staff Lead-Bear's Smokehouse BBQ-New Haven

 

Position Summary:

Catering and Vending Team Members represent Bear’s Restaurant Group in a variety of off-site settings, both public and private events. Lead team members are tasked with providing exceptional customer service and assisting the overall success of the service or event. Catering and Vending Leads are responsible for time-management, professional interaction with customers, and excellent food service at events. Catering and vending team members must have the ability to travel to Bear’s Smokehouse locations in Windsor, South Windsor, Hartford, and New Haven, CT.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow proper company preparation standards to portion and prepare menu items based on guest choice
  • Practice safe food handling and cleanliness at all times.
  • Have strong menu knowledge and be able to explain menu items and terms and provide suggestions to guests when asked
  • Directly communicate and interact with guests in a friendly manner, at respective volume & handle crowds and put guests at ease
  • Communicate with other team members to ensure order accuracy and guest satisfaction
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station at all times inclusive of the maintaining the catering storage pod and supplies properly.
  • Perform catering deliveries in a timely manner
  • Assist with service on Bear’s Food Trucks at various locations
  • Accurately input orders into POS, handle money, make change, and process credit card transactions, when applicable
  • Attend and participate in catering team meetings and trainings
  • Communicate with Catering Manager and Catering Administrator in a timely manner
  • Execute public and private events with oversight and support to team members
  • Communicate with PSC on day of operations
  • Communicating issues to management
  • Help vending and catering managers with venue inventory and waste logs
  • Responsible for recording sales and cash handling at public events
  • Help execute company-wide events and specialty/custom events

Job Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age and candidate must be able to:

  • Provide proof of a valid driver's license and personal insurance per company requirements.
  • Pass a motor vehicle record check.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding safe driving and maintain a clean driving record during the course of employment.
  • Maintain a high degree of pace and intensity for an extended period of time while performing with quality and accuracy.
  • Practice safe food handling at all times.
  • Withstand exposure to possible food allergens including but not limited to; meats, fish, nuts, dairy, and oils.
  • Withstand exposure to and work with cleaning chemicals.
  • Lift up to 40lbs constantly.
  • Lift from floor to shoulder constantly and overhead infrequently.
  • Twist, reach, & bend frequently.
  • Listen to and comprehend instructions from Leads, Managers, and coworkers over background restaurant and equipment noise constantly.
  • Frequently wash hands.
  • Adhere to schedule and be on time for shifts.
  • Adhere to company uniform and appearance policy.
  • Listen to and comprehend instructions from Leads, Managers, and coworkers over background restaurant and equipment noise constantly.

Skills/Qualifications of Ideal Candidate:

  • High School degree or equivalent preferred and/or 1 year experience in related industry.
  • Good communication skills, friendly and polite demeanor.
  • Strong knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in a restaurant.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Team player.

Expected Hours:

This is an on-demand position and scheduling is based on individual staff members availability as it relates to services booked though the catering department. While the catering department does fully operate year round, the Bear's Smokehouse catering peak season typically extends from April to October. During this peak season, we generally experience an influx in services booked through the catering department, which often results in a greater demand for catering staff during that time period.
